Mitt Romney and the Massachusetts Siting Board Redux
It's no wonder people are confused about the future of the Cape Cod offshore wind farm. Even now, six years into this agonizing process, local media continue to misinform their readers about events. Here's something from the Cape Cod Times: "There was no surprise in a unanimous decision by the Cape Cod Commission yesterday to deny a wind farm proposed for Nantucket Sound."
What's really going on is a power play by the Commission, which is claiming jurisdiction that it does not have. The important board to watch in this case is the Energy Facilities Siting Board, which has already issued a decision on the need for the project. This is why then-Governor Willard Mitt Romney tried so hard to prevent that board from doing its job.
